I really don't know what to say about the election.

I liked what one comedian said—at least now we have a minority in power. But I guess we got what we wanted—which was to punish the Fiberal-Liberals. Some people in the West are happy—since they felt excluded. Also the rural areas feel that they have a place at the table because places like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver (the economic engines of the country) have taken all of the attention away from…these small places.

I don’t know what this government will produce, other than a loss of certain things like national day care, a new package for aboriginal peoples, certain lower- and middle-class tax cuts and a gain of 1% now and 2% later off the old GST, and potentially going to war with Iran. I guess that’s the best we can hope for in a society of wealth and TVs.

I will say one thing: Our democracy is about people having the right to vote, regardless of anger and regardless of ignorance. And the success of our democracy can be judged by the fact that we, even in anger, even without knowledge, can vote and don’t riot in the streets. Complacency…That’s the success story.

See you in 18 months!

"Our democracy is about people having the right to vote, regardless of anger and regardless of ignorance."
