4 filmmakers get together
and make one short together
... in 4 consectutive days
Pass-the-Ball What is it? Well, filmmakers don't jam. If you're a musician and you bump into someone and you have a few laughs, you like each others "sound" it's not totally insane to get together sometime and jam. Not to record an album (though it could lead to that), not line up grant applications or monies; just a date to hook up, hang out, and jam, share your music with each other within in the moment and move on. At the end of the experience you don't have anything to sell or promote, just a thing you shared together, to explore your craft more, and to share a spark with. Question always came up, why don't Filmmakers Jam? Find out more here >>>
WATCH: Pass-the-Ball A while back we made a weird film experiment with four different directors taking on segments of an "improv" or "pass-the-ball" kind of film. Above is the third segment written and directed by Duane Murray, shot by Ravi Kajuria, edited by Shane Belcourt, with sound and score by Jordan O'Connor.Find out more about this project here >>>
NOTE: for the most part you'll need the latest Quicktime Player.
Oddities to Watch:
Cash Cow in the studio "Jordan O'Connor's Cash Cow is one of my favourite bands of all time. It's four friends led by Jordan, my oldest friend. As a band leader and an artist he really favours things to be free and without judgment. For him, it seems that creating the art for yourself is the only point - that's it. You'll get a true sense of that watching these clips as they set up the tune, go over any last 'notes' over-looking the charts, before they lay down the song in one final take. Also, they did 26 tracks in one day. Crazy." - Shane Belcourt Watch the clips here >>> Visit the Cash Cow website here >>>

Lighting "One night in Toronto we had the most amazing thunder and lightning show going outside my window. It was, ah, scaring the shit outta me. So, I turned the camera on it to get some distance and perspective on it - isn't that what all the arts are for for each of us?" - Shane Belcourt Watch the explosions here >>>
Cash Cow Live "Cash Cow was doing a live show up at the Stockey Centre in Parry Sound. It was a big gig, in a really nice theatre. So, I bought the camera along. Shooting with a single camera in the heat of the moment is great - you only get one take and you have to focus and listen more, there's nothing to direct or remember. Just point the camera at something that seems interesting and stay on it for as long as you can. And, as you'll see, the talk before the whole shot started was shocking and hilarious and awkward. When it's so awkward it's painful, it makes me laugh. I think out of recognition of my own awkwardness and failures I guess. And with that, enjoy!" - Shane Belcourt Watch the clips here >>>
Shane Anthony - "Let Me Back In" "As I've said before, when I think about something it is a disaster. I am a just go kind of person. So, for this, I saw Brokeback Mountain, and was just crushed by the emotion of that film. Forget the gay thing for a second, it is really one of the best love story films I've seen. So, I went home really shaken up and the only way I could get it together was writing a song about it. Next day, threw a camera on a desk, Jordan threw some mics up, and we recorded it all. I think it's my best song, and personally, I like music videos like this - this is that moment." - Shane Belcourt Watch the one-shot music video >>>
